Acer Aspire 5920- "Gaming to Common"

While Dell is busy boxing its Inspiron range with strictly positioned features Acer is adding new flavors to spice up Aspire range of notebook. Acer Aspire 5920 is one such notebook lacing gaming advantage to a desktop replacement. The model falls under the new Aspire line called "Gemstone".

The structure this time is innovative. The smooth dark contour with a car boot like handle to open the lid makes the design unique. This opens up to a groovy yellowish gray inside with combed blue LEDs and a slanted space bar. Serving the term Crystalbrite, the screen is very bright indeed but it fails to cater quality and richness by a poor contrast.

So if you are ready to sacrifice black and contrast to get glossy vivid colors, choice is yours. But as a warning it won't be as pleasant as matte screen.

Unlike Dell's Inspiron 1520 and 1525, Acer Aspire 5920 comes with a built in subwoofer. And with Realtek sound driver attached you get loads of options and settings to play around with. You might want to keep volume displayed on the screen as the volume dial present on the laptop is quit blank. Although the keyboard is a bit weird looking it has got dedicated media controls.

The selection of ports offered by the machine is well off. Most ports are comfortable to use when placed in the side but some ports like LAN and video ports should have been employed on the back. Adhering notebook's entertainment agenda Acer has united a HD DVD drive with a HDMI port as standard.

Another interesting feature to talk about is the "e" button. The "e" here stands for "empowering technology". What it does is, it opens a pretty looking control panel tooled with Acer utilities. It serves as a beginners guide to laptop management. A unique pro of the 5920 is the Nvidia 8600m GT video card, which is one of the fastest 8xxx GPU .

In addition, it comes in a MXM II slot with easy access. Even after featuring a low T5250, 5920 proves its gaming advantage, meaning you don't have to spend money on a higher CPU for that purpose alone.

A big disadvantage of this notebook is that it can't keep its cool. Comprising so many ports confines the air vent to the lower left side, and this is where the lid design goes wrong by limiting the space allocated for the back vent profile. This results in relatively warmer than appreciated inner temperatures.

Even after the above fall-backs Aspire 5920 best bang for the buck. And with the gaming advantage it will attract many young buyers.
